Revised estimates on measures to combat Islamophobia

STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE GROUP OF 77 AND CHINA BY THE DELEGATION OF IRAQ, ON AGENDA ITEM 139: PROGRAMME BUDGET FOR 2025 - REVISED ESTIMATES ON MEASURES TO COMBAT ISLAMOPHOBIA, AT THE FIRST PART OF THE RESUMED SEVENTY-NINTH SESSION OF THE FIFTH COMMITTEE OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY (New York, 10 October 2025)

Madame Chair,

1. I have the honor to speak on behalf of the member states of the Group of 77 and China on agenda item 139. Programme budget 2025 - Rev. estimates Islamophobia.

2. The Group wishes to thank the Controller, Assistant Secretary-General Chandru Ramanathan and Ms Juliana Ruas, Chair of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions for introducing their respective reports.

3. The Group notes that this report was to be submitted to the Committee during the main session last year, following the adoption of GA resolution 78/264 in March 2024. Nevertheless, the Group welcomes the revised estimates report and supports resources under this agenda item.

4. The Group remains ready to engage with all Member States on this matter, with the view of reaching an agreement as early as possible, to ensure that the General Assembly resolution is adequately funded and implemented without further delay.
