STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE GROUP OF 77 AND CHINA BY THE DELEGATION OF IRAQ, ON THE ORGANIZATION OF WORK OF THE FIRST PART OF THE RESUMED SEVENTY-NINTH SESSION OF THE FIFTH COMMITTEE OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY (New York, 24 February 2025) |
Mdm. Chair,
1. I have the honor to deliver this statement on behalf of the Group of 77 and China regarding the organization of work for the first part of the resumed 79th session of the Fifth Committee.
2. First, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Uganda for its outstanding leadership of the Group of 77 and China throughout 2024, especially to my dear friend and colleague, Medard. I also reaffirm Iraq's commitment to guiding the Group's work in a transparent, inclusive, and constructive manner.
3. The Group extends its sincere appreciation to the Secretariat of the Fifth Committee and the Bureau for their dedicated efforts in preparing the Committee's programme of work for this session.
4. The Group also acknowledges the significant contributions of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions for providing technical and sound recommendations on the agenda items before us during this session.
5. We commend the efforts toward the timely submission and availability of reports to the Committee, though we believe there is room for improvement. The Group emphasizes the importance of receiving documents in all official languages in a timely manner in line with the Rules of Procedure of the General Assembly and relevant resolutions to this effect, allowing adequate time for thorough deliberation on these critical issues for the Fifth Committee.
