STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE GROUP OF 77 AND CHINA BY MR. IMAD ELDIN A. ALI BABIKIR, DELEGATE OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE SUDAN, AT THE THIRD MEETING OF THE THIRTY-FIRST SESSION OF THE SUBSIDIARY BODY FOR IMPLEMENTATION (SBI) OF THE UN FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE (Copenhagen, Denmark, 12 December 2009)

Madam Chair,

I took the floor to thank you on behalf of the Group of 77 and China for the great effort you made in carrying out the consultations with all Parties to streamline the agenda for this session and to facilitate the work of this exceptional session of the SBI in Copenhagen.

We understand that the work of the SBI has been constrained in this particular session by the limited time allocated and by the overlap of issues which overlap of course under the AWG-LCA and the AWG-KP as well. Nevertheless, we would like to welcome the progress made and to thank you, your co-chair, and the Secretariat for the great efforts in facilitating the work of the Parties in this session.

The Group of 77 and China is looking forward to engage in a more constructive deliberation in the subsequent sessions of the SBI to advance its work in implementing the Convention and the Protocol.
