STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE GROUP OF 77 AND CHINA BY MS. FARHAT AYESHA OF ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN, IN THE SECOND COMMITTEE UNDER ITEM 57: GROUPS OF COUNTRIES IN SPECIAL SITUATIONS (A) THIRD UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE ON THE LEAST DEVELOPED COUNTRIES' AT THE ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION (A/C.2/62/L.58) (New York, 7 December 2007)

Madam Chairperson,

I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the Group of 77 and China after the adoption of resolution on 'Third United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries' (A/C.2/62/.58) under agenda item 57.

Madam Chairperson,

2. The Committee would have noted that by the paragraph 22 of this resolution, the General Assembly has given its agreement on holding the 4th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries towards the end of the current decade. The Group of 77 and China would like the Secretary General to include in his note a detail on the modalities of the Conference and its preparatory process. We would also invite the Secretary General to widely consult with the member states on the venue of the Conference.
