CONCLUDING REMARKS ON BEHALF OF GROUP OF 77 AND CHINA BY MS. FARHAT AYESHA OF PERMANENT MISSION OF ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN TO THE UN IN THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL PREPARATORY MEETING (IPM) OF FIFTEENTH SESSION OF COMMISSION ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (CSD-15) (New York, 2 March 2007, Afternoon Session)

Madam Chair,

The Group of 77 and China would like to express thanks to the Chairman, the Bureau and the Secretariat for the Chairman’s draft negotiating document. It is our hope that the document will provide a base and a beginning for our negotiations during the CSD-15.

Madam Chair,

Our delegations would be leaving New York with the understanding that the revised draft negotiating document, as it has been distributed this afternoon, will be reflected upon by all of us till we gather again in April-May 2007 for CSD-15. In other words, the document will remain as it is even if there may still be shortcomings and room for improvement.

Madam Chair,

In conclusion, G-77 and China would like to express our gratitude to you, the members of Bureau, and to the Secretariat for their work and efforts for the IPM. We believe we have had a useful opportunity for and exchange of ideas and will now be better placed on how to move forward.

On our behalf, G-77 and China would like to assure you, our colleagues and partners, of our earnest participation in CSD-15 as always, in a constructive and positive spirit, in order to realize our common objectives relating to sustainable development.

I thank you.
